Designing Small Office Network:

For complete IT Support and Services please visit http://www.ithelps.com.au

Recently we got a project to design, manage and maintain a IT infrastructure for a SME at Sydney. The main challenge was integrating the current LAN without compromising with the security of SQL  Server 2008 and Application server 2008. Our IT Support team has designed the network according to the diagram attached. We have used a Microsoft Server 2008 as web server which will be placed in the DMZ for all the traffic which comes from WAN. Only port HTTP and HTTPS was given access to the web server. For security reasons we have placed a Cisco managed switch which can be configured for one way traffic i.e from corporate LAN to WAN. All the traffic from LAN to SQL server and Application server was restricted at this switch level.

For setting up this type of Small business network we had to keep the price in mind so we used NAS boxes for backup which are cheap option nowadays. Small business offices don’t want to spend lot of money on their Infrastructure so we have used the bare minimum resources.
